We set a goal to raise $1,000 to trim the trees that were threatening a building used by our organization. We successfully met our goal and were honored to have District 4 Councilwoman Latisha Johnson attend and support our fundraiser.
Once every quarter, SIU took a break from their regular monthly meetings to host a delightful feast for the community. This special event is eagerly anticipated by everyone, as it provides a wonderful opportunity for neighbors to come together and enjoy a delicious meal. The menu for each feast is always carefully planned, ensuring a variety of tasty dishes that cater to different tastes and preferences. The food is generously donated by local restaurants, showcasing the community's strong support and collaboration.
We hosted a four-week chess camp for youth aged 6-18. This program aims to foster critical thinking, patience, and sportsmanship among the young members of our community, while also connecting them to unique opportunities through chess.
Throughout the summer and into the fall, we organized a series of movie nights that brought the community together. These events were more than just film screenings; they were opportunities for neighbors to connect, share experiences, and create lasting memories.
In the early morning, community members gathered for an invigorating hour of yoga. The serene atmosphere and the rising sun provided the perfect backdrop for this peaceful activity. Participants of all ages and skill levels came together to stretch, breathe, and find their inner calm. To make the experience even more enjoyable, complimentary yoga mats were provided to everyone who attended.
Community members, along with officers from the 9th precinct, took a walk through the Mapleridge neighborhood. This event provided an excellent opportunity for everyone to engage with their neighbors, creaing a sense of unity and connection within the community.
On Father's Day, the community came together to honor and celebrate the wonderful fathers among them. It was a heartwarming event filled with appreciation and joy, as families and friends gathered to recognize the important role that fathers play in their lives. The celebration included various activities and moments of gratitude, making it a memorable day for everyone involved.
BD4C generously donated bikes to SIU to support their canvassing efforts. This thoughtful gesture aimed to enhance the efficiency and reach of SIU's community engagement activities. To make this initiative even more special, community members came together to assemble the bikes. It was a heartwarming scene as neighbors, friends, and volunteers worked side by side, sharing tools, stories, and laughter.

This event provided a wonderful opportunity for everyone to engage with their neighbors and strengthen the sense of unity within the community. As they strolled through the streets, participants enjoyed casual conversations and the chance to connect with both familiar faces and new acquaintances. After the walk, SIU prepared a delicious grilled meal for everyone to enjoy

The aroma of freshly grilled food filled the air, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Taking a leisurely walk is an excellent way to engage in community outreach. It's always a pleasure to have the 9th precinct join us.
SIU hosted a Western-themed party to celebrate the outstanding efforts of a community member in improving their land. The event was filled with joy, and the children had a fantastic time.
