"Straight Community No Gimmicks"

 At Building D4 Community, our mission is straightforward: to rejuvenate underprivileged neighborhoods by offering a network of support, resources, and opportunities for individuals to connect, collaborate, and thrive. Picture starting your day without needing to travel more than 2 miles to work or having a barter system with your neighbors for fresh produce. Imagine multiple community houses catering to various needs, such as homeschooling and co-working spaces etc,. Homes are newly renovated, and there are no deserted areas that could foster crime. This is our ultimate goal, but achieving it requires layered steps. We are committed to a phased approach, starting with the basic need of affordable single-family housing and safe spaces. 

We started our mission in August of 2018 buy acquiring blighted houses, in a 2 by 2-mile area, from the demolition list, we breathe new life into these structures through comprehensive renovations. Once restored, we offer these homes for rent at below-market rates. Our organization has rights ensuring that quality housing is accessible to all members of our community. We also purchase land and develop communal outdoor spaces to encourage positive social activities. 

 Our partnership with the Detroit Land Bank began in 2021. This collaboration allows us to endorse land for vetted individual stakeholders, ensuring that community members have the first chance to acquire the land they live on. So far, we have endorsed over 50 lots in the Mapleridge Community. 

 In 2023, our founder established a neighborhood association called Strength in Unity. Since its first meeting on June 13, 2023, the organization has supported BD4C through volunteer efforts and serves as a bridge to understand the community's needs and concerns. This partnership has allowed BD4C to tap into funding that enables us to clean up and develop the land we have acquired for the community. SIU has been recognized as the Best Neighborhood Association for 2023 and 2024 by the Eastside Community Network (ECN).

Through our initiatives, we aim to create a thriving environment where families can flourish, children can play safely, and neighbors can connect and support one another.
