Elimination Chess Tournament Registration

Welcome to the Mapleridge Community Elimination Chess Tournament!

Presented by Mapleridge Community Neighborhood Association, the ‘Strength in Unity’ event invites you to three thrilling days of strategic moves and intense gameplay at our future Community space 15017 Flanders. One hundred contestants from Detroit’s Eastside Schools will engage in a one-on-one, three-round chess competition. As Round 3 unfolds, the 12 remaining contestants will vie for the title of finalist, with live prize payouts at the end of the final round.

Join us for a friendly yet competitive atmosphere, where you can test your skills against fellow chess enthusiasts. Plus, it’s all for a great cause— all proceeds will go to the renovation of a donated space for to host community events and community meetings. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, this tournament is open to all levels. Don’t miss your chance to showcase your tactics and compete for the following prizes:

• Grand Prize: $500
• Second Prize: $200
• Third Prize: $100 
• 4th-6th place: $50

o Group 1: 5:00 PM-6:00 PM

o Group 2: 6:15 PM-7:15 PM

o Our tournament coordinator will inform you of which group you are in for that day.

2. April 19, 2024: 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM

3. April 20, 2024: 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM

In addition to the thrilling chess matches, there will also be a 50/50 raffle happening during the chess tournament. Participants can try their luck for a chance to win while supporting a great cause. Building D4 Community non-profit organization has donated a residential house and a building to Maple Ridge Community. The transformed residential house will serve as a hub for community-building programs, fostering connections and growth. Additionally, the building will be dedicated to community space for meetings and events, providing a central gathering point for residents to come together, share ideas, and collaborate. Proudly sponsored by Building D4 Community, this event supports the communities on Detroit’s Far Eastside.

We chose to have it at our future community space to share the journey of rehabbing with all who are interested in watching us work together to make this project happen.

There will be food vendors set up for all three days. Vendors will accept cash and cash app for payments.

1. Rules:
   • Standard chess rules apply.
   • No electronic devices allowed during games.

1. During the Rounds:
   • If a game reaches a stalemate during any of the rounds, the players with the longest time play will advance to the next round.
   • Checkmate automatic win.
   • If players time out of 45 mins, the winner will be determined by the number of points from pieces taken.
